TRAVEL&ACCOMMODATION

In most countries, you will find one or two-week package trips to Lanzarote. You can also fly to the island independently throughout the year. Travel time will greatly affect the trip price. During school holidays, prices are most expensive as Lanzarote is a popular family destination. Finnish travel agencies fly mostly to destinations that are popular among Finnish tourists, such as Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen. Package trips are also arranged to Costa Teguise and to capital Arrecife. Most popular travel times for Finns are between November and March. Between July and August, you should avoid travelling to the island, because then the Spanish vacationers will raise prices and places will be very crowded.

Independent travellers can, with careful planning and strategy, travel to the island much cheaper than the cost of package trips. Flexibility with the travel time is a major factor in price dropping. For example, at the beginning of the year when the schools already started until the beginning of ski holiday, travelling is cheaper.

Lanzarote’s airport is close to Arrecife. From the airport, you can also easily get to other destinations of the island by buses and taxis.

Lanzarote has a comprehensive bus network that allows you to travel easily between different destinations and cities. The price varies between 1.40€ and a bit over 3€ depending on the length of your journey.

Taxis are a good and cheap option, especially for larger groups. Taxi rates and lengths of the journeys are clearly presented at the taxi stand. Taxis are a good, independent and flexible way to travel especially between cities.

Car rental is a convenient way to move from one place to another at your own speed. The roads are in good condition, and there is not much traffic. That is why many people like to rent a car for the whole holiday or just for one day.

Lanzarote is a great biking and walking place. There is not much traffic, the roads are in good condition, and the ground is flat. Bicycle rental companies can be found all around the island where you can easily rent a bike for a day or for a week at a time. Walking is definitely the best way to move around in cities and beach destinations. Promenades and business streets are beautiful and idyllic environments where is it nice to walk and explore the surrounding city. Places like Charco de San Ginés Lagoon and the Museum of Contemporary Art are within walking distance from Arrecife. Travelling by foot is free, increases fitness and gives the best circumstances for enjoying the scenery in peace.

When choosing a place to stay, first you should get to know the different areas and decide where you want to set up your “base” since that is the place where you will most likely spend most of your time.

If you want to visit many places during your holiday, the capital Arrecife is a great destination for you. From there it is easy and quick to visit other interesting locations. Buses run daily around the island. Within a short distance, you can find beach destinations such as Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen. In Arrecife, you should choose accommodation from promenade.

Playa Blanca is a great beach destination, but unlike Arrecife, moving to other destinations in the island is harder. Yaiza is located inland, quite close to Playa Blanca, and it has better access to the rest of the area. When choosing a place to stay in a beach destination, you should take into account that the closer you are to the beach, the closer you are to the services, but at night there may be noise from the streets and terraces. You shouldn’t stay too far from the beach because the services and beach are far and the journey there takes time. It may be better to sacrifice peaceful nights and be close to everything than agonize about distances, the choice is yours.
